It’s normal for people to go through different emotions throughout the day. However, for people who suffer from conditions that cause mood swings, it can be problematic. It not only upsets their normal day-to-day functions, but it also affects their social and personal relationships. Fortunately, mood swings CAN be managed and if you experience them frequently, there are ways of dealing with them. Here are 6 practical ways!

Mood swings can be a symptom of another condition. To deal with it properly, make sure you know exactly what causes it. If its depression, for example, you might want to seek professional help. If it’s caused by your unhealthy lifestyle, genetics or any hormonal problems, you will have to make some changes to manage your mood properly.

If your mood swings are frequent and already affect your life and your family, it would be a good idea to go and seek a professional. They could give you a proper explanation and diagnosis, find the true cause of your mood swings and offer the correct treatment. I was diagnosed with PCOS due to hormonal imbalance and stress, both factors that trigger mood swings. What my doctor prescribed, however, wasn’t effective and made me more emotional. I’ve since gone off all pharmaceutical medication and decided to devote my life to fitness and natural ways of living only consuming plant-based medication instead. Consider spending time on activities that help relax and keep you focused. A favourite hobby could help you calm down. I started going to the gym more and painting as I find it so therapeutic and stress-free. These activities not only keep your mind busy, but it also helps you take control of how you react to certain situations.
5. Talk to your family and friends
If they occur more often and you’re undergoing therapy or change of lifestyle, you will need all the support you can get. Discuss your condition with your family and friends.
When you’re dealing with mood swings, there will be certain changes in your behaviour and your life, this is normal and it’s ok so don’t worry. Don’t let this affect your personal relationships, let your family and friends know what you’re going through. If they understand what it is that causes you to behave in a certain manner, they will be less likely to be offended or confused.
6. Get ready to go through some lifestyle changes
Sacrifices will have to be made on the road to recovery. If you’re dealing with mood swings, be ready for its challenges. Some days it can be tough and on some days it can be nearly impossible but trust me it’s manageable with the right lifestyle habits and some exercise.
